Frequently Asked Questions
1. How long will my files stay online?
Assuming that the file content does not break any rules, it may stay online as long as you want because you are free to organize and delete your own files at any time. Of course, if you run out of disk space, you might have to delete an older file to make room for newer files.
2. What is the maximum file size I can upload?
Each file can be as large as 5 MB. This free service is mostly intended for hosting images, but if you want to upload any file type with no size limit, please consider upgrading your account. We have many premium members who use their upgraded accounts to upload 500 MB+ video files, which is completely okay with us.
3. What file types may I upload?
The current allowed file types for members are: jpg, jpeg, gif, bmp, png, pdf, txt, doc. (Note: Members who signed up before April 22, 2006 may upload jpg, jpeg, gif, bmp, png, pdf, txt, zip, rar, wmv, wma, avi, mpeg, mpg, mov, qt, asx, asf, 3gp, wav, mid, and mp3 files). When you log into your account, you can see a list to remind you of the type of files you can upload.
4. Is there a limit to the number of times a file can be downloaded or viewed?
No, but there is a bandwidth limit. You can see how much bandwidth you've used in your account page, and it is updated in real-time. Remember that people who see your images or links might try and post them at other locations without asking you. Kindly remind people to not spread the links or tell them to sign up for their own FilePulse account. One way to help prevent hotlinking is to rename the file and update the link with the new file name at the location that you posted it. Do this anytime you think a file might have been hotlinked.
5. Do you allow direct linking to files?
Yes, members may directly link to files.
6. Does the server automatically watermark your logo onto my images?
No. Your images will not be altered by the server.
7. Once I register, is my account mine to keep forever?
As long as you don't violate any rules or you login at least once every six (6) weeks, then the answer is "yes". If you go on vacation and can't login, you must let us know.
8. Is there a restriction on where I can post my links and images?
No. You can post them on your website, blog, or on your favorite web forums -- just about anywhere.
9. What type of content do you NOT allow?
Please do not upload:
-Nudity or Pornography
-Graphic content (i.e. real people getting killed, etc)
-Files promoting discrimination or hate towards a certain group of people.
-No copyrighted content (i.e. Hollywood movies, music from RIAA members/affilates, Videogame ROMs/ISOs, etc)
We have nothing against free speech, but I don't want to deal with angry e-mails and it just makes things easier. We also have nothing against adult material, but many advertisers don't want their ads displayed next to adult content. If you are unsure if the file you want to upload is allowed, please contact us or read the Terms of Service page.
10. Where are these servers located?
Texas USA.
11. What will hapapen if I sign up for more than one account?
All your accounts, including the original one, will be deleted without notice.
12. I found an account who is abusing your service. Who do I contact?
Please send an e-mail to abuse@filepulse.com. Thank you for your help.
Member FAQs
1. I just signed up but I can't upload anything.
Your must activate your account before you can start uploading files. Please check your e-mail.
2. How can I find out how fast I'm uploading when using this site?
You can download and install a firewall called 'Sygate Personal Firewall', which is free and is one of the best software-based firewalls out there. When you open it up, it will give you nice real-time graph like this:
You can also Google for NetMeter, DU-Meter or NetLimiter for additional programs. I've never tried them though, so I don't know how well they work.
3. My ISP says that I have a 384Kbps upstream, but I can only upload at about 42Kbps. What is wrong?
A. First of all, Kb is kilobits and KB is kilobytes. A connection rated at 384Kbps offers a speed of about 44KB/sec. So there is nothing wrong with your connection or the uploader.
B. Sometimes your download speed will affect your upload when doing http uploads. For example, at my former college, everyone was given a download speed of about 90KB/sec and an upload of about 300KB/sec. Yes, they capped the downloadstream a lot lower than the upstream. Anyway, when using a HTTP uploader such as this, I could only upload as fast as 90KB/sec. Of course, using FTP allowed for the full 300KB/sec. Please note this scenario is very rare.
4. How do I check how much disk space and bandwidth I have left?
Click the "My Files" link at the top of the page. On the left side, you will see your stats.
5. When does my bandwidth reset?
Bandwidth resets on the first day of every month at around 12:01 am PDT.
6. What happens when I use up all my bandwidth/data transfer?
A message will appear saying that you have exceeded your limit. No one will be able to download your files until the 1st of the month or until you purchase additional bandwidth.
7. Do uploads count towards my bandwidth/data transfer?
No, uploads do not go towards your monthly bandwidth limit.
8. Is there anyway to see if anyone is hotlinking my files?
No, but if you are really concerned that someone is posting your links on other web sites, let me know and I will check my log files. Also, if you think someone is hotlinking, rename the file and update the location of where you posted the link.
9. What is the URL to my photo gallery so I can share it with my friends?
The address is http://www.filepulse.net/members/browse/userid# . Just replace "userid#" with your account number. Example: http://www.filepulse.net/members/browse/2
10. Who do I contact if I have a question or need help?
You may send an e-mail to contact@filepulse.com. I always have my PDA cell phone with me, so I usually reply quickly.
11. How do I donate without upgrading?
Please use the button below. Even $1.00 helps out. Thank you!
